You and other people coming from abroad usually bring one or two books with you to Bali. Lying on the day bed while reading is claimed as the best way to relax. But for some people bringing book while traveling sometimes is so troublesome. And on the day coming back home, you will notice that you don’t have any free space for your book and decide to leave it at your accommodation.

Well, that is okay. However there is more interesting system introduced by Ganesha Bookstore since 1986. This bookstore was established by Balinese artist/writer and his wife to cater to the needs of avid readers who travel to Ubud.  They started with their precious collections and traded as second-hand books. People may find many old books in many languages including a lot of novels and many books in the field of Balinese history, culture, art, and culinary which may not exist at other bookstores.

As the bookstore grew, Ganesha Book also provides you with new books which are still related to Balinese culture, art, and culinary. And even Ganesha Bookstore has been cooperating with some local NGOs to sell postcards and many things to support the education of Balinese children.

Once you are in Ubud, visit Ganesha Bookstore which is located near post office. You can buy the old novels or new books at there. It must say that old book’s prices are quiet cheap from around IDR 60.000. After reading it within 2 or 3 days if you don’t have free space on your bag you can go back to Ganesha Bookstore and they will buy it at half price. In addition, if you bring your favorite novel from your country and once again your suitcase seems full and you should leave it, leave it at Ganesha Bookstore. They will check the physical condition and the goodness of the book and they will pay you based on those two criterions. Voila! You got the money from the book you don’t want to bring home.

Since 2009, Ganesha Bookstore opens a new outlet at Petitenget-Kerobokan to cater to the needs of avid readers at that area.
